Fitness Friday- StairMaster

Welcome to another week of Fitness Friday inspired by Jill at Life as I See It [Fitness, Health and Happiness]. Hop on over to Jill's blog to join in on the blog hop.

Life As I See It [Fitness, Health and Happiness]
Lately I have been hating cardio at the gym. I am running a lot more since my training has started for my fall marathon, so when I'm at the gym the thought of more cardio isn't too appealing. Just recently though my gym purchased two StairMaster machines. Although this is cardio I feel like I get such a great leg workout as well that I just love it! Plus I get super sweaty so I feel like I'm getting a great workout.

I typically do 20 minutes which consists of intervals of 90 and 75 steps/min alternating between skipping steps, side steps and regular steps. 20 minutes is more than enough for me on this machine, I'm usually pretty sweaty and tired after.

Question: have you ever tried the StairMaster, if so what is your favorite workout on it?

  1. I get bored with the same cardio equipment at the gym also, so i "hop" from one to another! Stopping by from the FF hop!

  2. I LOVE the stairmaster. I'd take it over any cardio machine any day. I'm always afraid it'll blow up from all my sweat.

  3. Hi Daniella, I found you from the FF Blog Hop. I can't even put into words my hate for the stairmaster! I find it so difficult! Maybe I'll have to overcome my hate for it so that I can challenge myself and beat it. Good for you being able to keep at it for 20 mins, not an easy feat.

  4. OH I LOVEEE the stairmaster!!! I actually used to be scared of this piece of equipment, thinking I would go flying off of it if I wasn't careful but now it's my fave way to do cardio. I used it a lot in my training for my last competition and I swear it did wonders for my booty for show! I do the preset speed intervals for 30 minutes a lot. Last night I did the fat burner preset for 30 and it was GREAT! Enjoy!

  5. Sigh --- I struggle with cardio, since I'm training for a fall half marathon, too. It's a pain in the butt to find enough time to run, so squeezing in crosstraining is usually a fail for me. Boo!

  6. AH, the dreaded STAIRMASTER! I'm a cardio machine fanatic and am still a little queasy at the thought of a stairmaster workout! They're so hard! But yeah, 20 minutes is a lot. Very intense.

You can actually amend Megan Fox's bike workout to be used on an elliptical. After I read this post this morning, I went ahead and posted about that workout so you can use that training schedule if you'd like! It uses high intensity cardio intervals to release fat from fat cells and then uses low intensity cardio to burn that fat. It's really effective! But your butt will hurt... I posted about it here.

  7. I gave up my gym membership for home fitness so I have done the SM in a while. I do remember it kicking my butt every time! It's a great workout and a nice change in running routines.

  14. Using machines takes so much dedication!!! I just don't know what to do with my eyes and my brain while working on them. Winter is around the corner, so I need to find out. I have never used a stair master - are they hard on the knees? I have an ellipse machine that has hardly been used. (hopping late this week)
