Happy Birthday BOMF Boston!

This morning Back on My Feet Boston celebrated their one year birthday with a huge celebratory breakfast at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel.

We not only had the pleasure of having a wonderful breakfast but we were also blessed to hear the stories of some inspirational individuals of the BOMF community.

Jim Boyle from John Hancock was one of the main speakers of the morning. Jim concluded his speech with an introduction to the Founder and President of Back on My Feet Anne Mahlum. Anne shared her childhood story with us which led her to wanting to run and eventually inspired her to create the BOMF organization.
Anne speaking about her life story (sorry about the blurriness the lighting wasn't very good)
After Anne finished her speech a very special speaker was introduced, Steve Karagiozis, who is a current BOMF team member with Team Mission and has been with team since day one. Steve has battled his entire life with an alcohol and drug addiction, but has been sober now for the last 18 months of his life and is currently living in his own room and his own space. I got choked up several times throughout Steve's speech as it made me feel that we are making a difference in these residents lives, because there are some days where it is easy to get discouraged. Steve ended his speech by saying BOMF has helped make him “the epitome of potential.”

The celebration ended with a resident team member presenting a plaque to their team leader on stage.

Question: What makes you keep going back to volunteering for an organization?

  1. Hey Daniella! Thanks for commenting on my blog. :) I continue volunteering at places that mean something to me and are organized. I like to feel good about what I'm doing, but I've volunteered at some places that were so unorganized I felt useless. :/ Frustrating.
